Fallen Tree, Make Lake – Burl Detail
Posted By John Chabalko on October 15th, 2007
We just got back from a short trip to Austin, TX. Home of live music (lots of it), bats (didn’t see even one of em) and bbq (saw lots of that). I have a few frames from my one attempt at shooting the famous bats at sunset. In the end there were no bats, but i did get to watch the sunset over the river with a bunch of other people while getting exposed to the Austin mosquito population.
Meanwhile – back to Yosemite… more to come later…
Not far from May Lake is a trail that walks out along the edge of the lake and after about 8 miles ends up at Glen Aulin. Not too far away from the May Lake camp is the tree stump i made this detail of. The stump is large – probably 8 feet tall and about 9 feet wide. All throughout the complex root system are large (basketball sized and larger) rocks that the roots grew around probably hundreds of years ago. I saw this stump last year when we were there and it doesn’t look like it’s changed one bit. It’s probably been lying there for 50 years mostly unchanged with a few hundred years of life before it fell..
