Joshua Tree Cactus

March 20th, 2007

At one end of Joshua Tree the landscape is covered by Joshua Trees. The other end has hardly any Joshua Trees at all and cactus and other desert brush cover the endless expanse of sand.

There wasn’t much rain this year so the blossoms weren’t as prevalent as they have been in years past. I stumbled upon an area that was full of blossoms while on my way out of the park.

The desert is an interesting place. I was walking around shooting pictures and decided at one point that i didn’t need to carry my camera bag around and that i’d just leave it where it was. I walked not more than 20 yards away from it with my camera and tripod to shoot the picture that you see here. After a couple of frames i ran out of film and needed to grab some more out of my bag but my bag was nowhere to be found.

In the end i found it, but only after walking around for 20 full minutes. I had to backtrack, and then walk a grid pattern around the area where i’d been before i found it; in the process i nearly lost my camera and tripod that i’d left set up, all the while i was never more than 50 yards from the road and a few cars.
