Marin Headlands – Point Bonita Lighthouse
April 9th, 2007
One of my favorite places in the Bay Area is the Marin Headlands. Just a couple of miles North of San Francisco you’re immediately taken to a large relatively undeveloped place. There are some roads, small buildings and hiking trails (along with a pseudo-undercover missle base and old WWII cannon forts, but that’s all for another time).
At what’s probably the southern-most point of the Marin Headlands is the Point Bonita Lighthouse. This lighthouse was put into use in the mid 1850’s and still protects ships from the California cliffs as they enter the Golden Gate. (Seen here from Baker Beach at sunet.)
