Merced River: Rock and Tree
Posted By John Chabalko on May 28th, 2008
There are lots of things in a flowing river that will get wedged from time to time two of the most popular being rocks and trees – at least in this part of the world.
When i’m come across similar configurations in the past the tree usually is not totally and completely static as this one was.
I spent a good deal of time watching the scene here before setting up to make my picture to make sure it would be able to hold up through the long exposure i was planning. The amount of water that was flowing in the river and the velocity at which it was traveling makes for nothing but the most stuck objects to be candidates. This tree is wedged just as solidly as the multi-ton boulder behind it that’s been there in that same position for thousands of years.
