One From The Vault

August 2nd, 2007

A couple of years ago (September ’05) Jason and I took off for Yosemite one weekend. We packed the car full of medium and large format cameras, related equipment and a couple of sleeping bags and left after work on a Friday evening.

Jason had rented a couple of 8×10 lenses to play with and i was trying to make due with a newly acquired 4×5 and a couple of lenses with broken shutters. We spent much of Saturday shooting in Tuolumne Meadows and developing our Polariod Type 55s in the back of the car. At the end of the day – after a fine dinner of pizza and Sierra Nevada on the deck at curry villiage where we talked with an Irish couple and their friend (who couldn’t decide between a beer and a glass of red wine (so he got both)) – we cleaned our negatives in the Curry Village communal bathrooms and hung them to try in our tent.

The next day involved much more shooting and the conversion of the rear of my ill-fated VW Golf to a mobile drying unit. The above picture was the beginning of what our tent looked like that last night as we were reloading our film backs and getting ready for the next day.

I bring all of this up for a few reasons:

  • I haven’t put anything new up lately as i’ve been quite busy with the day job
  • There are several rolls of film staring me in the face every day from the past few weekend of shooting
  • Some new things are in motion on ebokeh – stay tuned (i just wanted to slide that in)
  • One week from today we commence what is sure to be a fantastic trip with two night in Glen Aulin
