Here are a few more images from the Grand Canyon and surrounding area. I’m revisting this after a few months so it’s a bit of a random assortment

We woke up to snow in the morning in the Grand Canyon, it persisted for a few hours turning into light flurries before the sun came out and the snow dissipated. Later that day we made the drive to Page, Arizona. That was a relatively long drive through endless amazing landscapes with storms blowing through. You could see hundreds of miles in every direction.

Page Arizona is a great stop along this trip. We had dinner at a local fried chicken place, the Bird House and then went out along the rocks beneath the Glen Canyon Dam during dusk. The next morning we were out at Horseshoe Bend.
Horseshoe Bend is a pretty cool place to stop but it’s the surrounding area is most interesting. Whether you know it or not you’ve seen pictures of it, probably from Ansel Adams or the many people who have tried to take the same image. The reality of it is that in 2025 you park in a lot and take an easy walk maybe a 1/2 mile along a manicured path where there’s an overlook to the horseshoe shaped bend in the river. There are people everywhere.
The landscape in the area is beautiful with the red rocks rolling on seemingly forever. Without the park you wouldn’t suspect that Horseshoe Bend is there unless you were exploring or happened to fly over.

On the way out of Page we stopped at Shell Station Cave which seems to be an adopted name for this sandstone cave (it’s right behind a Shell gasoline station). It’s a beautiful structure that you can climb on and walk around in but it’s also crowded with people given how accessible it is. There are a ton of pictures online of one of it’s most well known views. After being there I would think that most of those pictures have had other spectators digitally removed, and if not there was a crowd just outside of the frame.
There are a ton of options to explore the sandstone landscape around Page and this is definitely an interesting one but if you have the option go early in the morning.
