Merced River: Surging Water

There are places that you can stand along the banks of the river where the trees and rocks can’t obscure your view of the river. If you ignore your peripheral vision and focus on what’s right in front of you the flowing river can take on new and different forms. This is what I tend to do when i’m shooting pictures. Sometimes I see the image right away, sometimes I have to stare it at a while until it takes form in my head.
I tried to do the latter a lot while I was making the images for this book. This image is one of the more abstract that I made in those few sessions. I was trying to capture the power and range of the river in single square frames.
